Welcome to the Hancock County Conservation (HCCB) Page This page will provide you with information on the Hancock County Conservation Board and information on the parks and wildlife areas we maintain. We are pleased to offer four beautiful parks which provide excellent areas for a myriad of outdoor recreation possibilities. Two of the parks have modern campgrounds and we also have three cabins available for rental at Crystal Lake Park. The HCCB also maintains fifteen wildlife areas and two inviolate wildlife refuges.

History of the Hancock County Conservation Board
The Hancock County Conservation Board consists of five citizens that are appointed by the county supervisors to acquire and maintain various county-owned natural areas for the benefit of the county's inhabitants. Since its establishment in 1959, the conservation board has become either owners or managers of several public areas, together totaling over 1200 acres!

The Hancock County Conservation Board meets in the basement of the Public Safety Center, located in Garner, Iowa on the third tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM. These meetings are open to the public.

Mission Statement
The Hancock County Conservation Board is committed to the preservation and maintenance of our natural resources and to provide outdoor recreation and environmental education in Hancock County.


Camping Information
Eldred Sherwood Park is located 3 miles East of Goodell, Iowa on County Road B63 and one mile North on County Road R-66. There are 40 electrical and 5 primitive sites available. The rates for electric sites at Eldred Sherwood is $12/night and primitive sites are $6/night. Weather permitting, the Eldred Sherwood Park Campground is open from April 15th to October 15th annually.

Crystal Lake Park is located on the East side of Crystal Lake at 1045 320th Street. There are 65 electric and 30 primitive sites available. Electric sites at Crystal Lake Park are $12/night and primitive sites are $8/night. Weather permitting, the campground, water and park facilities at Cystal Lake Park are open from April 15th through October 15th annually. During the campground off-season, all park facilities are closed and the water is turned off. All primitive and electric campsites at Cystal Lake Park are open to the public during the off-season for $8/night.

Shelter House Reservations
The Hancock County Conservation Board has 4 shelter houses available for rent for only $10/day. These shelters are located at Concord Park (South side of Garner), Eagle Lake State Park (North of Hwy 18 between Britt and Duncan on Lake Avenue), Crystal Lake Park and Eldred Sherwood Park.
